Tracee Ellis Ross Style Icon
Her style is authentic and effortless, we take a look at what makes Tracee a style icon.
We have a major crush on Diana Ross’ child Tracee Ellis Ross who creates an aesthetic all by herself. Not only does she keep us entertained, she lives to empower other people and she serves us fashion slayage day after day.
Tracee’s love affair with fashion started a long time ago, in fact she says she thinks she came out of the womb ready to shop.
Her iconic style developed from her immersion in the fashion industry for decades. She was signed to Wilhelmina Models and made her first runway debut on her 18th birthday. She then went onto work in the fashion closet of Mirabella and New York Magazine after she graduated from Brown University.
Tracee launched her first fashion line collection in collaboration with JCPenney, The Tracee Ellis Ross for JCPenney Holiday Collection.
On her red carpets look she considers but often dismisses having a stylist, preferring to style herself. Ross says, “style is so much who I am, it is important for me to feel like myself on a red carpet — not the way somebody else thinks I should look.”
On inspiration she cites her mother, Diana Ross as a fashion influence. She also notes her mother’s friends Cher and Barbara Streisand as fashion influences. When it’s time to glam up her go to designers are Dries Van Noten, Alexander McQueen and Isabel Marant.
“I have a vocabulary in clothing. It’s like a whole language. Clothing started as an armour for me, it was one of the ways that I protected myself from the world. It evolved into a form of creative expression. I love playing dress-up. Sometimes it creates a great outfit and sometimes it creates a person.” – Tracee Ellis Ross
