DJ Fresh is leaving 5FM. The "Big Dawg", who has been working at the station for several years, confirmed that he's joining Metro FM.
Speaking to Rob Forbes and Fix on 5FM, Fresh said: "A day or two ago I was told 'oh, by the way you’re being redeployed'." He said it was difficult to say no because it was a dream for him 30 years ago. He explained that exactly three decades ago, he heard Treasure Tshabalala on Metro and told a friend of his that he wants to work there.
"I’m sad about it, but I’m also happy because I think my entire career on radio has always been about everyone else - about management, about the team, about the collective. I’ve never necessarily done anything for myself," Fresh said.
He will be hosting the breakfast show from Monday, 3 April. He said he's excited about his new gig. "I'm so excited that like my nipples are literally standing right now. I'm gonna pull my shirt away from me," he laughed. "It' s a 30-year-old dream," Fresh added.
Fresh's news comes after the country learned about Unathi Msengana's departure from Metro FM. She took to Instagram to reveal that she hosted her last show on Friday morning. Her former co-host, Glen Lewis, has joined Tbo Touchn's Touch HD online radio station.
