In 2011, the Repetoires took the silver screen by storm when we met them for the first time on Vuzu’s hit local series, Running With the Reps.
Almost a year later, after many cries from the fans, the crew comes back in a brand new season of Running With the Reps, to hit your screens on Wednesday 29 February at 19:30!
We took some time out with our favourite hip hop dancers to get to know a little bit more about them, as well as to find out what we can look forward to, in what promises to be an action-packed season 2 of Running With the Reps.
Check out our Q&A with Larry, representing the Reps!
Q: What was the best thing that came out of the first season of Running With the Reps?
A: Lol! Dudes became mad famous! Hahaha I joke! I think its all the support we received from everyone … From people in the industry, to our supporters and family. They all showed us so much love its unbelievable to experience anything like that.
Q: What can your fans look forward to seeing in season 2 of Running With the Reps?
A: MORE DRAMA MORE DANCING and you will see REPS become a bigger entity. This is possibly some of the best footage to come out of South Africa!
Q: Any special surprises that you can let us in, with this season of the show?
A: Lol! If I told, ya’ll would you be suprised though? Just think REPS and know you never know what to expect – it’s a roller coaster ride!
Q: You guys have now been doing your dance “thing” for a while, have you caught any big breaks so far in the world of hip hop and dance – what have you guys been keeping busy with between the two seasons?
A: The biggest thing people need to understand is that as dancers we’re artists and as the Reps we see ourselves as that. We’ve performed alongside and opened for some of the biggest artists in the world (besides any big dance breaks) and we’ve helped artists win awards – we’re building an Empire…
Also before we started shooting, we’d all been working on major projects to grow our empire. It’s worked out that the Thunda Kats finished matric, so now they are enjoying big boy life…. They grow so quick don’t they? [laughs]
Q: How are relationships going in the crew (between the guys, and also in terms of the love life)?
A: *sings* We are a family! With that said, all families have problems and so do we. One thing that stays there is that genuine love for one another – always. Some of the guys are now officially in relationships. Cathee and I broke up, a lot of things have changed.
Q: Tell us what’s with the language that you guys speak on the show? Is it yours? Did you make it up? Can you teach us a couple of phrases that may be useful to us.
A: Oh snap! Glad ya’ll noticed that! Lol! Okay firstly there’s “Butterface” (pronounced but-her-face) – girl with an awesome body messed up face. And then there’s “Hallering/SOLLY” – a term used for speaking out of turn. “Solly” came from a twitter account where the user always tweets things that are out of order.
Q: Why do you think that viewers identify with you guys so easily?
A: There’s a character for everyone on our show and that’s how people relate. We’re also really showing what happens between friends especially those trying to make it together.
Q: What is the one thing that people don’t know about each of the members of Running With the Reps?
TJ is the sweetest dude ever
Dj Capital – mummy’s boy of note
Chama – is mad whipped now (you’ll soon see)
Larry (myself) – I actually have the shortest temper ever
Thato – he never looks up when he is performing
Kea – he’ll protect Thato through anything
Mike is the dude that keeps us together
Nthato – is a diva (-”"”-) LOL!
Be sure to do the right thing, and get locked onto Vuzu, on Wednesday 29 February at 20:30, do get Running with the Reps!
