The Verge Scores a New Presenter
The hottest gaming show on television has scored the hottest presenter on the block for 2011!
That’s right, Vuzu’s The Verge is where award-winning actor, presenter, comedian and all-round mega-talented Thomas Gumede is headed – becoming part of a show that’s essential viewing for all gaming and entertainment fans across Southern Africa. Gumede is stepping in whilst regular host, Pippa Tshabalala is on leave, and the popular entertainer is understandably thrilled about hosting the multi-platform gaming programme.
For more gaming news, reviews and tips, visit The Verge page.
This is not the first association Gumede has had with DSTV: he came out to play last year, co-hosting the 2010 Channel O Music Video Awards with Lungile “Lungsta” Radu– to much acclaim from fans and critics alike. He’s also been a performer at the DSTV Comedy Festival where Gumede’s brand of fresh, in-your-face humour has gone down very well with comedy aficionados.
Says Gumede, “It brings me great joy to get paid to do what I love, The Verge has once again given me that opportunity! I love gaming, I’ve been a fan since Mario Brothers! Now I can tell my mom that all the gaming I did is now getting me paid! On the real, it’s a great platform for me to get in touch with a new audience. I WILL bring the noise!.”
Gumede won the Best Actor in a drama at the 2009’s SAFTA’s (South African Film & Television Awards) making him one of the youngest winners to date. The SAFTA was for his role in Bay Of Plenty, just one of the multiple television and film roles (including that of Siphiwe in the drama series A Place Called Home) that Gumede has enjoyed over his short, but already impactful, career.
Armed with an AFDA BA degree in Live Performance, Gumede has had no trouble expanding his acting career to comedy and presenting – and he will be bringing his considerable expertise and suss to The Verge.
The Verge is the place where viewers go for an interactive dose of gaming and technology TV, featuring new releases and in-depth coverage of every platform from consoles to PCs and mobile. Catch Thomas’ The Verge debut on Monday 28 February at 22:30, only on Vuzu!
