Lira Releases First SA DVD on Blu-Ray

There’s no doubt South Africa loves Lira. That’s why she’s the best-selling afro-soul singer in the country. Her Live in Concert – A Celebration DVD broke sales records when it reached the Double Platinum sales status within ten months surpassing Celine Dion’s Live in Las Vegas: A New Day DVD sales within ten months of its release.

And now this soul sensation is set to release the first Blu-Ray DVD in Mzansi. Her Live in Concert – A Celebration DVD is due for release on Blu-Ray next month.

“I believe its one thing to have a grand vision of how to direct your career and quite another to enlist others to share your vision. None of this would have been possible without my fans and the people who believe in me and what I have to offer,” says the singer. “The love I’m shown out there is remarkable. My commitment is to keep it coming! Thank you for your support – you make it easy to spread my wings and fly.”

Lira will also release an audio version of the DVD which includes 20 minutes of previously unreleased concert material and bonus tracks. She even pays tribute to Madiba in a song called “Something Inside So Strong” which she performed alongside the Soweto Spiritual Singers at Nelson Mandela Square in July this year.

BLK JKS get their Thirty Seconds of fame

Good news for South African band the BLK JKS. The indie rockers have just been chosen to support American rockers Thirty Seconds to Mars on their South African tour next month. Big Concerts announced the news earlier. Thirty Seconds to Mars were last in SA in 2008, as part of My Coke Fest. Now they are returning to headline three shows this November. Details are as follows:

19th of November at the Coca-Cola Dome Johannesburg

20th & the 21st of November at Grand Arena, GrandWest, Cape Town.

Big up to the BLK JKS. If their performance at the FIFA Kick-Off Celebration Concert, alongside Alicia Keys and their mash-up with DJ Tiesto is anything to go by, everyone is in for a treat come November!

Mzansi’s First Hip-hop Festival At Nekkies This Weekend

All roads lead to Worcester for SA’s first hip-hop outdoor festival this weekend. Yes, you heard right! It’s the first hip-hop festival in Mzansi and it goes down this weekend from Friday 29 to Saturday 30 at Nekkies Resort in the Western Cape.

The gig’s aim is to promote the hip-hop music industry, to unite the huge hip-hop community dispersed around the Western Cape, and of course, to give all you hip-hop heads an unforgettable weekend of pure hip-hop.

The line-up features the illest MCs and the dopest rappers the Western Cape has to offer. Expect to see Black Noise, Driemanskaap, Ill Skills, Teba, Rattex, Blaq Pearl, DJ Raiko, Dubmasta China and many more.

The festival kicks off on Friday evening with deejays playing hip-hop, reggae and dubstep all night long. Then on Saturday the live music session begins at noon and goes on until Sunday morning. It’s a full day of electrifying hip-hop performances from Afrikaans and Spaza rap, to Poets and B-Boys.

There will be one main stage area and one chill zone around the pool area; camping and braai facilities; food stalls and beer gardens will be trading and for those of you who are worried about your safety there will be strict security and medics on site.
